If you suffer from unsightly eyelid or facial lesions, please schedule a medical visit with Dr. Mark Maria. Dr. Maria will assess these growths before removal for their potential for malignancy and investigate medical insurance coverage. Potentially malignant growths are sent for biopsy and might need further treatment or intervention. Insurance often will pay for the removal of these new growths on the face, neck and eyelids.
How Important is Treatment?
New lesions or growths on the eyelids, face and neck may represent premalignant or cancerous conditions as well as detract from one’s appearance. Fortunately, many of these growths are benign skin tags or cysts which are readily removed in our office. However, we recommend early removal as the key to preventing further problems from these occasionally serious neoplasms.
What is the Procedure Like?
The majority of these growths can be removed safely and quickly in our outpatient minor procedure suite. A local anesthetic is injected using a very fine needle to minimize discomfort and then the lesion is removed using a fine tipped radio frequency instrument which cuts and cauterises at the same time. Scalpel surgery and sutures are rarely required. Patients can drive themselves to and from the procedure and resume normal activities immediately.
